Primeiro filme de 35 mm

It was the first 35mm film ever. This film was "lost" for many years.

This film, originally thought to be from 1905 until David Kiehn with the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum figured out exactly when it was shot.
From New York trade papers announcing the film showing to the wet streets from recent heavy rainfall & shadows indicating time of year & actual weather and conditions on historical record, even when the cars were registered (he even knows who owned them and when the plates were issued!)..
It was filmed only four days before the Great California Earthquake of April 18th 1906and shipped by train to NY for processing.Amazing, but true!

Watch the scampering as Joe Public race away from autos, horses, cable cars and bicycles. Apparently there were no traffic laws...Everybody just goes where they want...

Vale a pena consultar o site dedicado à revista criada 1970, RADICAL SOFTWARE. Lá encontram-se dados históricos e bibliográficos, e todos os 11 volumes publicados até 1974 - primeiro volume constituído por cinco números e segundo volume constituído por seis números. Tal como no caso dos recentes posts aqui feitos, o conteúdo de cada revista está disponível gratuitamente, como parte de um projecto de divulgação de obras que, devido à sua baixa tiragem e falta de reedições, caíram, em parte, no esquecimento, merecendo um lugar na história e sem dúvida na contemporaneidade.

Neste caso, o projecto Radical Software visava explorar a tecnologia como força cultural, veículo de informação que se pedia acessível a todos e de forma gratuita, envolvendo o espectador neste medium ("Television is the software of the earth" surge no primeiro artigo do número aqui apresentado). São curiosas outras referências contemporâneas deste projecto, como as ideias utópicas de uma educação global via TV expressas por Buckminster Fuller (ver Utopia or Oblivion), e convém dizer que surge uma sua entrevista transcrita nesta revista; e as distópicas como o surgimento nos anos 80 do movimento cyberpunk, e experiências como o filme Videodrome de Cronenberg. No "Address to readers" deste número:

"Power is no longer measured in land, labor, or capital, but by access to information and the means to disseminate it . As long as the most powerful tools (not weapons) are in the hands of those who would hoard them, no alternative cultural vision can succeed . Unless we design and implement alternate information structures which transcend and reconfigure the existing ones, other alternate systems and life styles will be no more than
products of the existing process."

Um pequeno e final detalhe: no início de cada revista surge esta pequena maravilha:

"To encourage dissemination of the information in Radical Software we have created our own symbol of an x within a circle. This is a Xerox mark, the antithesis of copyright which means DO copy. (The only copyrighted contents in this issue are excerpted from published or soon-to-be-published books and articles which are already copyrighted .)"
