WalkShop

"The aqueduct of Aguas Livres was constructed in the 18th century to provide water to the city of Lisbon. It is 18 km long and it has an extensive system of branches.
The architectural complex overlooks existing agricultural landscapes and high density urban areas, crossing “diffuse” peripheral zones where the traditional dichotomy city/ field disappears. Towards its end, the aqueduct crosses the forest park of Monsanto, it travels through the Alcântara valley before reaching the center of Lisbon, where its complex and curious path ends in the many historical layers of the city. The aqueduct does more than linking up these geographically diverse territorial and urban realities. It also connects the social, environmental and cultural realities of these places. It is this physical connection between realities that are sometimes intangible that Stalker/Osservatorio Nomade aims to explore through the walk.
This project also aims to show how looking at this 18th century heritage can generate a new reading of the contemporary city, with its new problems and characteristics.
